A scary wasp nest in Kinross
This large wasp nest in Kinross set all the alarm bells ringing for an electrician this week. Because it was large he could see it as soon as he’d got through the hatch into the customer’s attic – and so he got out again as soon as he could.
He did exactly the right thing; wasps are very aggressive and would have attacked and stung him repeatedly if he’d disturbed them or the wasp nest. If you’re trying to get down out of an attic in a hurry and are surrounded by angry, stinging wasps then you could do serious damage to yourself or someone else.
The electrician told his customer that he needed wasp control and so they called our emergency wasp nest removal and eradication service. When our technician arrived he put on all the protective clothing that we use for dealing with wasp nests and went up in to the attic, well prepared for a lot of very angry wasps. The nest turned out to be an old wasp nest though; they are made of a paper paste, papier–mâché, and so they can last quite some time in one piece in a dry, dark attic. We cleared it all away so there were no nasty surprises for any more workmen that might go up into the attic.
This nest was large but we’ve seen much bigger ones, and they’ve been active and full of wasps; a real wasp control challenge. If you suspect that you’ve got a wasp nest in your attic, small or large, then don’t take the risk of examining it or treating it yourself; you could get badly hurt. Wasps’ nests really are best left to the professionals.
