Mouse pest control in Perth
Mouse pest control in Perth has been keeping us busy this week because mice are moving into houses for the autumn and winter. Mice don’t like cold, wet weather because they get hypothermia (dangerously low body temperature) easily. This is because mice have a large skin area compared to their small body volume. When this large area of skin and hair gets wet in cooler weather then it takes a lot of heat from a mouse’s body to dry out, making the body temperature very low; this can kill a mouse.
Mice are very good climbers and they dig well too, so they can get into buildings from the foundations up to the roof. Worse still, they can squeeze through gaps as small as 6mm; it is impossible to keep them out. Then, once mice are in a building they crawl through gaps in walls, under floors and along pipes and cables so you end up with a mouse infestation.
One horrified customer called us for mouse pest control because she found pest mice running round the bathroom; she had no idea where they’d come from. We found the entry points in the airing cupboard; the mice were living under the floor and had come up through the gaps in the floorboards behind the hot water tank in the picture. Mice are really inquisitive and they’ll always explore like this, though usually at night when it is dark and quiet. Our customer surprised them in the bathroom early in the morning – though I think she was more surprised than the mice.
We’ve used poison bait to clear the mouse infestation from our customer’s house. This is the quickest and most efficient way to get rid of mice. Our customer has asked us to keep the mouse control in place until the spring; we’ll visit during the winter to check and refresh the baits and to make sure her house is clear of the vermin infestation – and that she has no more nasty, mousey surprises.
