Rat pest control in Pitlochry
Rat pest control in Pitlochry was called for urgently today for rats running round in broad daylight right next to a house. Our customer was watching rats right outside the window and she was absolutely terrified because they were so close, even though she was safely inside the house. She’d never actually seen a rat either and didn’t know they could be so big. The rats blended in well against the pebbles but if you look carefully you’ll see two in the picture that we took.
Rats prefer to live near to water and our customer’s house is next to a river. Rats from this river must have been on the move, looking for shelter as the autumn weather turned bad, and found our customer’s garden shed to live under. Once the rats had settled in under the shed, they’d discovered the bird table next to the house. They were scavenging round the bird table for food when our customer saw them through the window. They must have been hungry because they normally come out at night rather than in daylight. You really don’t want rats as close to the house as they were here. This is because rats can dig under foundations, squeeze through gaps round pipes and even climb up in to attics and roof spaces; you’ll end up with a rat infestation in the house itself and need rat pest control inside as well as outside.
Rats are always attracted to things that provide safe shelter and cover for them to live under. Garden sheds are pretty near the top of their wish list but they’ll use wood piles, decking and compost bins in gardens too. Round commercial and agricultural sites they’ll live under pallets, piles of tyres, stacks of discarded goods and bales. They’ll even just burrow in under thick undergrowth or long grass. Part of rat pest control is to keep surroundings clear of piles of rubbish and overgrown vegetation, but that still leaves lots of things for rats to hide under that are normal or necessary to have around; you can’t get rid of everything!
To get rid of rats in our customer’s garden we are using a course of poison baiting, which will clear up the rat infestation quickly. We’ll be leaving rat pest control in Pitlochry in place too; our customer definitely doesn’t want rats so close to the house again.
